Training Your Dog the Taurus Way: Q & A

Q: Why two weeks?
A: The two week board-and-train program allows us to create the consistent, fun, and stimulating environment needed to learn. Your dog receives at least two training sessions per day, plus supervised play time with other dogs. This routine builds a foundation for a lifetime of learning.

Q: What is included during my dog's board-and-train?
A: The cost of regular boarding and play days are included in your board-and-train fee. We provide everything your dog needs while he or she is visiting us, including food, chew toys, comfy bedding, and training equipment. We feed the dogs at our facilities Nutro's Natural Choice Lamb and Rice, but if your dog has special dietary needs, you may bring his or her own food and treats for us to use. We also administer any necessary medications at no extra charge.

Q: What can I do to ensure a positive first boarding experience for my dog?
A: We strongly recommend that you bring your dog in for a day or two of doggy play day before starting a training program. This will allow us to get to know each other and your dog to learn that visiting Taurus is fun!

Q: Can I visit my dog during the two week board-and-train?
A: Yes. Talk with your trainer about the best time to visit.

Q: All I want is for my dog to "come" when I call. Can you help?
A: A successful recall is based primarily on two things: your relationship with your dog and the level of environmental distractions.

Often, we expect our dogs to come to us because we assume they love and desire to please us. Unfortunately, a reliable recall involves many foundational training steps, so you will probably find that this skill requires ongoing work and thoughtful planning.

While we cannot guarantee an off-leash recall in a crowded park after two weeks, our training program helps you begin to build the kind of relationship with your dog that will increase recall efficiency.

Q: Doesn't the owner have to be involved in the training? How does that work with a board-and-train program?
A: The owner absolutely has to be involved in training their dog. Taurus' board-and-train program includes four private lessons that teach the owner how to integrate what the dog has learned into everyday life.
